Overview of the Technicians Volleyball Club

The Technicians Volleyball Club was formed in 1998. We were formed basically from what was left of the Castrol Saints who has since ceased to exist. This team was formed so that the players who wanted to continue playing may do so and continue to improve their game, as well as keep the close net friendship that was forged between them over the years.

The team was originally sponsored by Custom Computers, which only lasted one season. The team has since lost that sponsorship due to hard economic times in the company. We have continued to exist, despite not having a sponsor. We have survived by having fund raising events and minimal donations from various companies throughout New Providence.

In May of 2001 we landed a sponsor in Twin Brothers. Twin Brothers a native Restaurant located at Arawak Cay and in Chippingham, also has various Daiquiris stands around the Island. This is the first and only Vendor from the fish fry that has sponsored any kind of sporting event and can also now boast of being the first champion at the fish fry.

After the initial formation of this club team under the coaching of Peter Ferguson we have travel extensively to participate in tournaments around the United States and the Caribbean to improve our game and to gain valuable experience. Since we have started traveling we have improved our games as a team and as individuals, to the point of being two time N.P.V.A Senior Night League champions. We have also recently participated in “Spike-Fest” an invitational tournament which was held in November 2002 on the Cayman Islands where we captured the first place crown after defeating “Venus” the top team out of Jamaica; it was a well-fought match.

In an effort to continue in this spirit we have decided to open our doors to help the needy and down trodden in the community. We have made several donations to places like the Children Emergency Hostile and the Bahamas Red Cross Society. Hopefully with the aid of our sponsor we will make some Christmas donations.

We also would like to play host to an annual volleyball tournament whether it is national or international and hope to have one of those charitable organizations attend the tournament annually for their enjoyment as well as offering them part of the proceeds.

The Technicians volleyball club has been officially formed, we will now work on incorporating some seven teams to include, two Seniors, two Juniors, two Mini all male and female and a Co-ed team. Already we have the two senior teams and the Co-ed team, in January 2003 we will begin training the two Junior teams and later in 2003 the two Mini teams.
